I need to restart the book Forum/. Just finished a small chick book. Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn By Kris Radish Book about moving forward and rebirth.. definitely a chick read only. Jaime's kindle was not being used so I searched for Edgar Sawtelle and its not there . So I started Wicked. Yesterday Jaime was out at a mall and bought it for me. I know some of you have read it and I am looking forward to starting it today at the beach, Wicked will be read after. So whats everybody reading?

I wrote out all of these books but I timed out so I’m doing it again Karen, all of these books should be on the Kindle if not let me know and I’ll send them to the unit, you don’t have to do nothing! Did you see it dropped in price to $189? Okay so these are some of my favorite books on the Kindle out of the over 300 we have. Hope something shows up that you like. I could go on and on but I actually do have to work for a living...lol

Series
Sookie Stackhouse, Aurora Teagarden, Harper Connelly and Lily Bard are all series written by the author who brought us True Blood. All the series are great and all books are on the Kindle. I think, as much as I love Sookie, my favorite series is the Harper Connelly one.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
An amazing 3 part series that I couldn’t stop reading once I really got into it. Murder, abuse, love, stealing loads of money, it’s all in there. The hardest part I had with this series is that it’s set in Sweden so a lot of the names sound like sneezes to me but other then that it totally transport you to Sweden.

Outlander Series
About an American (from Boston actually) who travels through the Stonehedge back in time to Scotland in 1743. I know it sounds hard to imagine but I can tell you after reading the series I’ve rubbed every rock I can find to see if I can make it happen to me. I think the greatest part of the series is all the characters remain the focal point of the story. It’s amazing the detail from hunting animals for food to how they build shelter. You can truly see it happening.

Authors
Jonathan Tropper is one of the very few male writers I truly enjoy. He has several books out but my 2 favorite are “How to talk to a Widower” and “This is Where I Leave You”
The Widower book follows Doug Parker who’s wife died in a plane crash. Through raising a troubled step-son, to having his twin pregnant sister move in, to sleeping with a friend’s wife you can see his grief clearly. He begins to write for the local paper on how to deal with grief and he begins to come through it. It’s not all sad, there are so many funny laugh out loud parts which make the book even better. The second book I mentioned again is all about family at it’s worst and it’s finest. The author has such great one liners.

Cathy Lamb
Henry’s Sisters, Julia’s Chocolates and the Last Time I Was Me are all great works of fiction. Henry’s Sister’s follow a family where 2 sisters must return home to care for their mentally handicapped brother while their mother has open heart surgery. Their grandmother also lives in the home and believes she Amelia Earhart. There are many sad moments but again a book that makes you laugh out loud. Her other two books are just as good but this one was my favorite.

Books
Rottweiler Rescue:
What a fun story! A lady who has no business being involved in solving a murder and really only rescues Rottweilers gets dragged into the investigation kicking and screaming. Totally a light summer read. I learned a lot about the show circuit and am I ever glad not to be a part of it!

Every Last One
A mom who must balance her 18 year old daughter’s recent breakup and her twin teenage boys, one who is a superstar athlete and one who doesn’t like to leave the house. This is one of those stories that I can’t really write to much about without giving away the ending but you will be left wounded, heartbroken and kissing your own children good night no matter how old they are. It is so well written as all of this author’s books are. I guess as a mom of teenagers this book really hit home.

House Rules
Jodi Picoult knows how to write and I wish I had an ounce of her talent. This book as usual to her style a family involved with the law but this one has a neat twist. The main character of the story has Asperger’s syndrome and while he can’t figure out when people are being sarcastic or mean, he can figure out a crime scene with ease. A murder happens in their town and for a family who just wants to blend in, it throws them in the spotlight. A really good beach read.

Secret Diary of Alice in Wonderland age 42 and three quarters.
Fun, fun and more fun. Copied this from Amazon:
The heroine, Miami real estate broker, Alice Harte, is caught between her thug boss, Leslie Archer, and an angry mobster intent on exacting revenge for the death of his brother. Archer's wife, Maris, is quite a character herself surviving on white wine and diet biscuits; she adds another slice of anxiety to Alice's dire situation. Then there's Nigel, a British charmer who may be the happily-ever-after man of Alice's dreams. A who-dunnit with twists and turns coupled with quick witted humor. The story stands alone in the unlikely event the reader doesn't know the original.

The Bean Trees
I loved this book and it will always remain in my top 10. A young girl decides to leave home with a piece of junk of a car and along the way stops at an Indian Reservation. While there a lady hands her a baby and says take it. Left alone with the baby she continues to drive until the car finally breaks down in a small town filled with quirky characters and finds her own way. Such a good feel good story. Pigs in Heaven is the sequel which is just as good but sad as I didn’t want the characters to go away.

One Thousand White Women
Back when there were still cowboys and Indians roaming the plains of America an Indian chief went to the US government and offered 1,000 of their horses for 1,000 white women who would marry the Indians and then produce children. The reason is children follow the bloodline of the mother so this would then help the Indians become part of mainstream society. In typical fashion, the government screws the Indians and sends them women from mental facilities, prisons and the likes. You really do end up falling in love with the women and the men they are forced to be with. This is one of my all time favorites.

Tomato Girl
A young girl is left to care for her mentally ill mother when her father runs off with the tomato growing girl. You know those stories if you could reach in and give a character a hug? This is one of those.

Don't forget the Mercy Thompson series and the Sophie Green series. Both really good reads. I also love the Rachel Morgan series. Just started a new one this morning...The Almost Human Trilogy. The jury is still out on it but Gwen told me it was good once you got into it. I'll take her word for it.

I second the suggestion regarding the Outlander series. Just love the richness of her stories.

Nora Roberts writes a futuristic cop series as JD Robb that I really enjoy. The main character is Eve Dallas.

Janet Evanovich writes a hysterical series about an incompetent bounty hunter in New Jersey named Stephanie Plum. Her books are all numbered ie One for the Money, Two for the Dough etc.

Jonathan Kellerman writes a series about a psychologist named Ales Delaware. I've read them all and quite enjoy them. He works murders and other cases with his friend on the LA(?) police force.

Hmmm....the list never ends. LOL

Also an author named Kathy Reichs....she's the forensic anthropologist whose life and books are the basis for the television show Bones. I like her stuff because a lot of it I can relate to, she sets her books in Montreal a lot of the time and I get a kick out of reading about a place that I know well.

Remind Dave how much money you'll spend on books in those 6 months. Tell him to do the math. LOL

The kindles have come down $70 since I bought mine in March and I didn't even turn a hair. At $12/ book, I've read about 3 times the money I would have saved by waiting.

Judi you are so right there!! I mentioned that to him. He say's I'm welcome to spend my own money on it if I want one right now. Except I spend all my money on plants right now....was hoping to install a small pond too because I know Buddy would be in that ALL the time. Just priced one out the size I want....$2000 clams---yikes!!

Katie is real close to giving her notice at her work, then she won't need me to watch Gracie anymore. Then I will have time to find a real job again! Would be sooo nice to have my own spending money again!!!

I just started reading A tree grows in Brooklyn. I read it a long time ago, but had to get it for Christy's required summer reading....so I am reading it again!

Karen~if I have to order books, I use DeepDiscount.com ...I also used that when a certain brown dog chewed one of Mikey's library books that I had to replace!!!!
